Investor Microsite

Build a managed fixed-wireless broadband platform for Bosmont and the surrounding western Johannesburg footprint.

A practical Ubiquiti / UISP WISP design that turns an Openserve fibre handoff into sectorised 5 GHz distribution for homes, flats, shops and small businesses. The website separates confirmed equipment facts from field-survey assumptions.

Current estate 55 premises
Option A R190,000

Regional multi-sector high-site platform.

Option B R65,000

Focused 5 km starter network.

Openserve ONT UISP Core Sector APs Customer Stations

Investment envelopes are planning values. Final build cost depends on survey, high-site, supplier quote and Openserve service confirmation.

Investment case

Two capital paths, one scalable network architecture.

The project should not be sold as one giant Wi-Fi hotspot. It is a managed point-to-multipoint network where sector APs divide airtime, customer stations lock to their assigned sector, and the core controls address, policy, VLANs and monitoring.

Option A

Regional Network

R190,000
  • Three-sector regional high-site design.
  • Capacity split across Bosmont, Newclare, Newlands, Maraisburg and Florida directions.
  • Includes stronger resilience, AC migration and relay/backhaul readiness.
Option B

5 km Starter Network

R65,000
  • One or two sectors aimed at the best subscriber cluster.
  • Same fibre-to-CPE architecture as the regional design.
  • Launch, prove demand, add capacity, then expand.
Scale and rand pricing

Network packages for 100, 200, 500 and 1000 managed clients

These are investor planning systems with current rand reference prices for the main hardware. They include customer CPE and indoor Reyee routers, because a WISP investment only becomes real when the client endpoint is counted. Final procurement must be confirmed by supplier quotation.

How the system works

From fibre handoff to each customer premises

Openserve terminates fibre at an ONT. Ethernet feeds the operator core. The Ubiquiti router and switch manage the tower network, sector APs distribute the wireless service, and each customer receives a directional station before the Reyee indoor router.

01Openserve fibre / ONT

Optical service ends at the ONT; Ethernet continues to the WISP router.

02UISP Router

Gateway, WAN policy, VLAN routing, DHCP and traffic control.

03UISP Switch

Managed tower switching and passive PoE to compatible radios.

04LAP-120 sectors

5 GHz PtMP airMAX AC distribution by geographic direction.

05Customer CPE

LiteBeam, PowerBeam or retained NanoStation aimed at the serving sector.

06Reyee router

Indoor NAT, customer Wi-Fi and LAN after the outdoor station handoff.

Address governance

Static IPs, reserved addresses and subscriber pools

The network should be run like an ISP, not a home network. Infrastructure receives static management addresses, customers receive controlled WAN leases, and paid static services are kept separate from ordinary residential NAT.

Always static

  • UISP routers, switches, consoles and monitoring hosts.
  • Sector APs, relay radios and backhaul radios.
  • Core DNS, NTP, syslog and monitoring collectors.

Reserved by client

  • Every outdoor CPE management IP is reserved and labelled by customer code.
  • Reyee WAN leases can be reserved for support visibility.
  • CCTV, POS and SME sites receive documented reservations.

Dynamic subscriber pool

  • Residential internet uses CGNAT/private subscriber pools by default.
  • DHCP lease comments must include client name, sector and CPE MAC.
  • Pool size scales from /24 to /21 as the network grows.

Paid static services

  • Static public IPs only if the upstream ISP supplies routed public space.
  • Business/CCTV static customers live in a separate routed pool.
  • Firewall rules are documented per static customer.
Commissioning discipline

What must be measured before this becomes a construction-ready design

RF survey

Spectrum scan, channel plan, noise floor, AP azimuths, client RSSI/SNR and modulation targets.

Line of sight

Tower height, roof heights, Fresnel clearance and terrain profiles for each priority customer cluster.

Openserve confirmation

Address coverage, product type, handoff details, monthly charges, SLA and ISP account model.

Power and protection

UPS runtime, grounding, surge arrestors, shielded outdoor Ethernet and secure cabinet layout.

Source discipline

What is confirmed, and what remains conceptual
